Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing or completion of a Board‑approved training program, based on level of licensure.
Current unrestricted license to practice in the State of New Hampshire.
Current CPR/AED certification.
Valid NH Driver’s License.
Substantial knowledge of applicable Federal, State and municipal laws, regulations and policies related to nursing and scope of practice.
1–2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, child health, community health or other relevant clinical nursing settings. Direct experience with medically complex children preferred.
Ability to maintain safety and provide care to medically complex students, including assisting with activities of daily living, frequent monitoring and assessments of a student’s condition, medication administration, simple and complex medical procedures, and emergency care.
Skill in the use and operation of medical apparatus, equipment and screening instruments. Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software appropriate to assigned tasks.
Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under time‑sensitive deadlines. Ability to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and technology.
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with school staff, parents and outside healthcare professionals.
Patience, empathy and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse needs.
Multilingual skills preferred.
Must be able to complete essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Required to lift up to 50 pounds.
Summary
A Student Support Nursing Provider provides care to medically complex students in the school environment through assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, management and referral activities. The role facilitates the promotion and maintenance of health, and the prevention of illness and injury for students, providing care in compliance with district policies, nursing standards of practice, and individual health plans.
Responsibilities of the Position
Routine and/or constant monitoring and assessment of students’ health status and safety, per scope of practice.
Medication administration, including proper safe storage and management of medications and treatments as prescribed, per scope of practice.
Perform complex medical procedures consistent with individualized health care plans as dictated by medical orders, per scope of practice.
Assist with other therapies as directed under licensed therapists.
Attend all classes with students, including snack time, lunch and recess, continuously monitoring their health status and safety.
Attend school-sponsored field trips as needed or assigned.
Ride the bus with students before and after school, as needed.
In conjunction with the School Nurse, assist in formulating, revising and implementing the Individual Health Plan, per scope of practice.
Assist the School Nurse and other staff as requested, per scope of practice.
Maintain and provide accurate health records of students to district, state or other appropriate agencies, including Medicaid.
Assist in the School Health Office, including administration of medications, assessments, treatments and screenings, per scope of practice.
RNs and LPNs only: maintain the School Health Office in absence of the School Nurse.
Assist teacher/case manager to increase student self‑awareness and self‑management skills of medical conditions at a developmentally appropriate level.
Ensure all care provided is within the scope of practice for the nursing license held.
Follow Manchester School District’s Nursing Staff Expectations, as amended.
Perform other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the position.
