Registered Nurse - Part-time
Job Description
Coordinate health services for the general patient population to meet applicable policies and standards.
Responsibilities
Complete health appraisals on admission and conduct periodic health appraisals for patients and staff per DOC policy
Conduct health clinic to identify medical, mental health, and/or dental issues, determine nursing interventions, and make referrals as needed
Perform physical examinations of reported patient injuries/illness, including staff as needed
Document visits to patients in segregated status
Maintain DOC electronic medical records in accordance with standards
Monitor patients with potential for self-destructive behavior
Assess patients to determine appropriate mental health nursing interventions
Collaborate with inter-disciplinary health team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care
Respond to medical emergencies and provide emergency health care
Plan and conduct emergency drills per institutional procedures
Assume primary clinical responsibility for health services during weekend and holiday assignments
Complete discharge summaries for patients scheduled to leave
Practice nursing following State board standards
Assist medical practitioner, dentist, psychiatrist as needed, providing accurate, precise communication and hands‑on care
Transcribe and record practitioner orders electronically
Organize and coordinate services through daily schedules of appointments and clinic visits
Perform lab services including phlebotomy and EKGs as ordered
Assist with telemedicine and x‑ray services
Complete central supply tasks of cleaning, packaging, and sterilizing medical supplies
Maintain institutional health services procedure manual
Communicate as a member of the Interdisciplinary Team
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa by the Iowa Board of Nursing or licensure pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) Administrator’s Agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing. Include your State of Iowa or compact state license number and expiration date with your application. Compact license holders must obtain an Iowa license within 60 days of first assignment.
