A privately held, physician-owned healthcare organization in San Antonio, TX is seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee core financial operations, compliance, human resources, and strategic support functions. This role operates as the senior-most finance professional while partnering closely with operations leadership in a highly collaborative environment. This is a broad, roll-up-your-sleeves position suited for someone who enjoys ownership, autonomy, and working across multiple business functions in a stable, established organization. The position does offer some schedule flexibility, is an in office position, and a direct hire.

Controller Role
Oversee full-cycle accounting operations including general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting
Prepare quarterly financial packages and support ownership-level reporting and decision-making
Build and maintain financial models and forecasts, including scenario analysis tied to business initiatives
Manage cash flow, distributions, and financial planning in alignment with ownership structure
Review and approve payroll processing, ensuring accuracy in tax treatment, bonuses, and special scenarios
Provide oversight of HR-related financial compliance, benefits administration, and regulatory requirements
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and financial procedures
Review contracts and agreements, identifying risk and coordinating with external advisors when needed
Partner with operations leadership to evaluate new initiatives, revenue opportunities, and cost considerations
Oversee insurance programs, vendor relationships, and external service providers (legal, tax, benefits)
Reconcile data across systems to ensure accuracy between operational reporting and financial results
Support ownership with ad‑hoc financial analysis, modeling, and strategic input

Controller Background Profile
8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
Experience in small to mid-sized organizations where individuals wear multiple hats
Strong foundation in financial reporting, general ledger, and full‑cycle accounting
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex financial models in Excel
Experience managing or overseeing payroll, compliance, and financial controls
Exposure to contracts, vendor agreements, or legal/insurance coordination
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Preferred Experience
CPA or CPA-track (not required)
Experience in healthcare or similarly regulated industries (helpful but not required)
Experience supporting ownership groups, boards, or closely held businesses
Familiarity with systems such as QuickBooks Desktop or similar platforms
