Job Overview
The Transplant Procurement Coordinator is a registered nurse trained in the evaluation of deceased donor organ offers, waitlist review, patient selection, post‑transplant patient management, and donor‑recipient matching. The role coordinates, plans, and follows up on organ offers, procurement schedules, organ perfusion/transport, and timely communication with patients, transplant nephrologists, surgeons, APPs, and other team members as well as hospital OR personnel and logistics/bed management. Functions effectively to review organ offers and maximize acceptance of organs for transplantation in compliance with local, regional, national policies.
Core Responsibilities
Coordinate all aspects of the evaluation/listing process for deceased donor and living donor transplantation for chronic kidney disease patients.
Act as liaison between the transplant program and all referring dialysis centers and physicians.
Ensure continuity of care through effective communication and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
Apply principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age‑specific needs and provide age‑specific treatment.
Handle all pre‑transplant tasks; post‑transplant care is not part of this role.
Qualifications
Required:
Registered Nurse in the state of New Jersey.
Clinical experience in the Medical‑Surgical Unit, Emergency Room, ICU, Organ Procurement Organization, and/or transplantation preferred.
Knowledge of the Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN), CMS Conditions of Participation, and local transplant program policies.
Ability to receive and disposition organ offers within 60 minutes of the electronic offer.
Interpret organ match run to identify appropriate recipients.
Communicate waiver information and implications for organ payment.
Present critical organ data to nephrologists and surgeons.
Maintain in‑depth knowledge of transplant nursing.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Proficiency with computer systems.
Complete all required orientation programs.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree.
Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC) certification.
Additional clinical experience in medical‑surgical units, ER, ICU, OPO, or transplantation.
Certifications and Licenses
New Jersey Registered Nursing License.
Basic Life Support Certification (American Heart Association).
Scheduling Requirements
Day shift, 12.5‑hour shift.
Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week.
Rotation to work every other weekend.
Holiday rotation.
May work partially or fully remotely; required in‑person attendance for training and quarterly staff meetings.
Onsite training provided during the 8‑hour day shift (Monday‑Friday).
