Long Term Substitute Special Education Teacher (Moderate Needs)
Anticipated Dates of Employment:
ASAP – May 29, 2026
Compensation:
$200.00 per day for less than 90 days; $275.00 per day for 90+ days for the same subject, same classroom. DESE license required for positions 90+ days.
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
Directly responsible to the High School Principal, Educational Team Leader, and Supervisors in areas of instruction and curriculum.
Job Summary
Promotes learning and growth of all students by providing high-quality instruction, authentic and meaningful student assessments, analyzing student data, using data to improve instruction, and providing constructive feedback. Maintains high expectations, a safe and effective learning environment, and cultural proficiency. Partners with families, caregivers, community members, and organizations to promote learning. Maintains ethical, culturally proficient, collaborative practice as a professional educator.
Statement of Duties
Provides direct and indirect instructional support to students as per their IEPs.
Demonstrates knowledge of developmental levels and differentiates learning experiences to enable all students to progress toward outcomes.
Participates in Team meetings.
Develops and implements Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) with measurable goals and objectives.
Ensures compliance with IEPs and timelines; maintains accurate student records and prepares required reports.
Provides instruction with measurable outcomes and higher-order thinking tasks aligned to state standards/local curricula.
Collaborates with general education teachers to modify curricula for students with disabilities per IEP, using varied instructional techniques and technologies.
Organizes and analyzes assessment results to determine progress and informs differentiated interventions and supports for all students, including English learners.
Collaborates with parents, outside agencies, and building staff; shares progress with colleagues and seeks feedback on instructional practices.
Provides descriptive feedback based on assessment results and engages students and families in constructive conversations about improvement.
Defines high expectations for quality of work and the effort required to achieve it.
Develops students\' interpersonal, group, and communication skills and provides opportunities to learn in diverse groups.
Addresses conflicts or misunderstandings arising from differences in backgrounds, languages, and identities.
Seeks and applies ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, and professional development activities.
Collaborates with colleagues on standards-based units, examining student work, and planning appropriate intervention.
Maintains accurate records as required by law and district policy; protects student confidentiality.
Performs duties timely and reliably, with regular attendance.
Performs other duties as assigned by the building Principal.
Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited institution, preferred.
Valid Massachusetts licensure in Special Education covering grades 9-12, preferred.
Experience with inclusion, small group, and individual settings.
SEI Endorsement on DESE License preferred.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Abilities
Technology Use – Familiar with the school system database, standard Microsoft and Google products, and web-based sites.
Learning Strategies – Selecting and using instructional methods appropriate for the situation.
Written and Oral Comprehension and Expression – Read, write, and communicate clearly.
