Position Summary
Medical Assistant (FGP) – Manhattan, Urology

Assist physicians, Advanced Care Practitioners, and nurses in patient care, including validating identifiers, preparing patients and rooms, measuring vital signs, drawing blood, and collecting lab samples. Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, answering phones, and data entry.

Job Responsibilities

Escort patients to exam rooms.

Clean and stock exam rooms.

Measure and record patient vital signs.

Obtain and process blood samples per NYULH policy.

Support quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR.

Promote a positive patient experience.

Communicate effectively with providers and administrative staff, escalating issues.

Answer phone calls.

Review and respond to in‑basket messages.

Follow up on Rx refill requests.

Assist physician with patient intake and transcribe visit into EPIC.

Perform other duties as needed.

Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities

Complete intake including vital signs within scope of practice.

Validate patient records when accessing/updating information.

Assist with maintaining patient flow and escorting patients/specimens.

Ensure rooms are cleaned per infection control standards.

Explain MyChart functionality to patients during intake.

Arrange translation services or equipment before visits.

Collect and properly handle specimens per policy.

Perform point‑of‑care testing (EKG, glucose, pregnancy, urinalysis) with competency.

Prepare patient encounters with up‑to‑date information.

Review and import pre‑visit information.

Follow logbook requirements for equipment and specimen collection per FGP standards.

Update medical records for MIPS; scan/upload diagnostic reports.

Maintain HIPAA privacy standards.

Document patient communications and refer clinical questions to RN/Provider.

Manage in‑basket messages for medical advice requests.

Update patient records and maintain communication via EPIC.

Assist physicians with procedure/setup as needed.

Stock and replenish exam rooms and supply closets.

Clean and sterilize equipment per policy with competency documentation.

Facilitate documentation of clinical supplies for FGP quality.

Review downtime procedures related to patient visits.

Complete annual competencies (fire safety, hazardous waste, MedSled, HIPAA).

Complete prior authorization, medication refills, and referrals.

Locate prescription requests in EMR, coordinate with RN/LPN/Provider.

Accompany physician into exam room and transcribe encounter details accurately.

Document diagnoses, symptoms, instructions, prescriptions.

Document orders for labs, radiology, medications.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Drive consistency and embody FGP Service Strategy CARES.

Greet patients warmly, communicate steps clearly.

Collaborate with colleagues and management to resolve patient interactions.

Apply LEARN model for service recovery.

Share improvement ideas for patient experience and access.

Partner with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to support collaboration.

Ensure staff understand Access Agreement gold standard principles.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or a current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized institution (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA).

Working knowledge of English verbally, reading, writing; other languages an asset.

Proficiency in computer skills.

Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Medical Assistant experience.

Experience with EKG, phlebotomy, and venipuncture.

Salary Range
Salary range: $61,692.74 – $61,692.75 annually.
