Experience with students in area of certification
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites
Subject matter in area of assignment
Policies and objectives of assigned program and activities
Curriculum, instruction and assessment
Short and long‑range planning techniques applicable to area of specialty
Record‑keeping skills
Oral and written communication skills
Laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities
Pedagogy in area of certification
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets and instructs assigned classes at the times designated.
Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Prepares for classes assigned, and shows documented evidence of preparation upon request of administrator.
Encourages students to set and maintain high expectations of classroom behavior.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, to meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
Diagnoses the learning abilities of students and evaluates student progress on a regular basis.
Maintains complete and accurate records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and Board policies.
Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms through appropriate parent‑teacher conferences.
Individually and cooperatively works with other teachers, supervises pupils in and out of classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Attends and participates in faculty meetings and serves on assigned committees.
Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
Accepts a shared responsibility for co‑curricular activities.
Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
Establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others.
Provides for her or his own professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Represents the school in the community effectively and in a positive manner.
Maintains regular, predictive, and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours.
Demonstrates a positive attitude and acts as a positive role model for kids.
Demonstrates a desire to see all students learn and succeed.
Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
Responsible for professional growth in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Administers health services to students as necessary in absence of school health professional.
Meets the Standards and Indicators set forth in the Certified Personnel Evaluation Plan.
Abides by the Professional Code of Ethics for Kentucky Certified School Personnel.
Adheres to the requirements of District or school employee handbook, Owensboro Board of Education policies, and all applicable laws and regulations.
Performs all other functions deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor that are reasonable and are covered by local board policy or law.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor, environmentally controlled. Typical office environment including but not limited to telephones, personal interruptions, background noises. May require working with or near the public, parents, and children and will be subject to sounds, scents, and other related environmental factors. This position will require dealing with conflict and requires use of sound judgement.

Repetitive movement
Standing and walking intermittently throughout a typical work day
Travel Requirements: (Frequency and Duration)
Less than 10% out of district
Daily as needed within district boundaries
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Instructional salary schedule based on rank and experience
Certified employee with year‑to‑year contract until continuing contract is granted
Certified benefits package
Participates in Kentucky Teacher's Retirement System (KTRS)
FLSA Classification: Exempt
Contract Days: 187
Pay rate: $44,782 - $74,910 annually, contingent on certification and verified experience
