Position Summary
The Center for Data Science (CDS) at the New Jersey Medical School (NJMS), Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, is recruiting candidates for the position of RBHS Instructor‑Science Research. The role supports a full‑time, tenure‑track appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level. Candidates with expertise in data science, machine learning, computational or systems biology, or bioinformatics and a strong interest in applying computational methods across biomedical research areas will be considered. The position offers a competitive start‑up package and may provide additional support for exceptional candidates such as Chancellor Scholars.
Responsibilities
Faculty are expected to develop an independent research program that is largely extramurally funded. The applicant will contribute to the three primary pillars of the CDS: research support, community building, and data‑science education. In particular, candidates will:
Design and conduct computational research projects that link data science with biomedical discovery.
Collaborate with NIH‑funded investigators across cardiovascular disease, neuroscience, immunology, and infectious diseases.
Establish data‑science support services and resources, and foster collaborative teamwork within Rutgers.
Develop seminars, courses, and educational programs for researchers at all levels of experience.
Qualifications
Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent degree with post‑doctoral experience.
Excellent communication skills and a record of productivity in biostatistics, computer science, or data‑science methods applied in biomedicine and disease research.
Experience in obtaining extramural funding and publishing impactful research.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in machine learning, computational systems biology, or bioinformatics.
Demonstrated ability to train students or mentors in data‑science skills.
Experience in creating or managing large biomedical data sets.
