Job Description
The Elementary Gifted Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and services to students identified as gifted in grades K–5 in accordance with New Mexico state regulations. Instruction aligns with New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks and district curriculum. The teacher supports advanced academic development as well as the social and emotional needs of gifted learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction to identified gifted students through pull-out, inclusion, or cluster-group models
Develop and implement differentiated curriculum emphasizing critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and depth of knowledge
Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure appropriate classroom modifications and enrichment
Develop and maintain Gifted Individualized Education Plans (GIEPs) in compliance with New Mexico regulations
Participate in SAT/IEP/GIEP meetings as required
Conduct and interpret student assessments to monitor progress
Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with state and district policies
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student performance and programming
Participate in professional development related to gifted education and state initiatives
Other duties as assigned by supervisors
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Valid New Mexico Level I, II, or III-A Teaching License
Endorsement in Gifted Education (K–12) issued by the State of New Mexico
Knowledge of New Mexico Content Standards and Benchmarks
Ability to pass required background checks
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with gifted or high-ability elementary students
Experience developing and implementing GIEPs
Training in differentiated instruction and advanced curriculum design
Strong collaboration and communication skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Understanding of characteristics and needs of gifted learners
Ability to design instruction that provides acceleration, enrichment, and depth
Knowledge of New Mexico gifted eligibility criteria and compliance requirements
Strong classroom management and organizational skills
Proficiency with instructional technology and student data systems
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (3–6 hours daily)
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and sit on the floor or at student-height desks
Ability to lift and carry instructional materials up to 25 pounds
Ability to supervise and actively engage students in classroom and school environments
Adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication skills to monitor and instruct students
Work Environment
Elementary school classroom setting within a New Mexico public school district
Exposure to typical classroom noise levels
Frequent interaction with students, staff, and families
May require travel between school sites within the district
Reports To: Building Principal & Director of Special Education
Work Schedule: 184 Day Contract
