
Sr Shop Trailer Mechanic $3000 New Hire Bonus

Job Summary
Cox Fleet is hiring a Sr. Shop Trailer Mechanic for a dedicated on‑site shop position. Responsibilities include conducting DOT inspections, performing preventative maintenance, executing light and advanced repairs, working on aluminum/chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, panel replacement, and advanced diagnostics for Shop Trailer Technicians I/II.
Duties
Always follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.
Independently determine parts required for each job and coordinate with the Shop Parts Department.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment and assist in daily cleanup.
Apply knowledge acquired through training and experience to perform job duties with technical accuracy.
Work with Service Writer to assess customer needs, provide assistance, and resolve issues.
Manage concurrent tasks and prioritize work and time allocations effectively.
Act with integrity, demonstrate honesty, keep commitments, and maintain confidentiality.
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a shop environment.
Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
Utilize hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work according to company standards and upload photos, parts used, and findings to Repair Orders.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation promptly.
Maintain a high level of productivity, meeting or exceeding standard repair times.
Communicate with Shop Manager and support team to obtain approvals and discuss Repair Order findings.
Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Participate in all company‑required safety training.
Maintain shop‑assigned service trucks, conduct safety checks, and perform daily pre/post trip inspections.
Make minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum, chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, and steering.
Diagnose, adjust, and repair trailer equipment and systems such as brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, steering, welding, fabrication, and panel replacement.
Identify problems, evaluate alternatives using sound judgment, and make recommendations.
Assist and support Shop Trailer Technicians I/II with diagnostics and parts sourcing.
Perform advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs for Senior technicians.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of related experience (alternative combinations of education and experience are acceptable).
Possession of a set of hand tools necessary for the role.
OEM training and certifications preferred.
Participation in all company‑required training.
Compliance with DOT regulations, including a successful DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or a valid DOT medical card with more than four months remaining).
Minimum age of 21 years due to interstate operating authority regulations.
Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, and ability to perform repairs and maintenance.
Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to apply new information to current and future decisions.
Physical stamina to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods and perform moderate heavy labor.
Excellent spatial judgment and the ability to estimate distances accurately.
Effective communication skills, organized and succinct in conveying information.
Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.
Logical reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions and choose the best approach.

Compensation
Hourly pay ranges from $26.73 to $40.10 per hour. The base rate may vary based on location and candidate qualifications. Additional compensation may include commissions and incentive programs.
Employees are eligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off each month and seven paid holidays. Additional leave options include bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer, military, and parental leave.
