Job Summary
To support growth of the company, Cox Fleet is hiring a

Mobile Trailer Technician II

to join our team. This dedicated on‑site position involves performing certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, lift gates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, bodies, and frameworks.

Duties

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.

Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company‑issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.

Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer components including brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, lift gates, and brake chambers.

Accurately complete DOT and other required forms in a timely manner.

Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.

Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.

Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.

Maintain and operate the service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and pre/post‑trip inspections.

Apply knowledge from training or on‑the‑job experience to perform tasks.

Communicate effectively with clients to assess needs and resolve problems.

Prioritize concurrent tasks and manage daily schedule independently.

Maintain high productivity while adhering to standard repair times.

Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.

Communicate with management for repair estimates and purchase order numbers.

Perform work in compliance with safety, health, and environmental policies and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Complete all required safety training.

Build and maintain good relationships with customers and vendors.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.

Diagnose and repair various trailer systems including brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, lift gates, welding, fabrication, and structural components.

Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED and 3 years of experience in a related field (Trailers). Alternate qualifications include any higher degree or 5 years of experience.

Possess and provide a set of hand tools necessary for job duties.

OEM training and certifications are preferred.

Participate in and complete all company‑required training.

Must pass DOT‑regulated background screening and DOT physical; a valid DOT medical card with at least 4 months of validity may substitute for the physical.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Required Certifications (within 18 months)

ASE T8 (PMI) certification

Preferred Certifications

ASE 608/609 certification

ASE T4 (Brakes) certification

ASE T5 (Suspension) certification

ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems) certification

ASE T7 (HVAC) certification

Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.

Ability to interpret and apply new information to solve problems and make decisions.

Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods and perform moderately heavy labor.

Ability to exert physical effort over long periods without fatigue, including repetitive tasks.

Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships accurately.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with clients and team members.

Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment for tasks.

Use of logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

Compensation
Hourly pay rate is in the range of $26.73–$40.10 per hour, varying based on location and candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Additional compensation may include commission and incentive programs.
