Surgery Support Coordinator

Overview
This is a full‑time Monday‑Friday 8 am‑4:30 pm position with no weekends, call or major holidays. The role is level 1, 2, or 3 based on candidate experience and primarily supports the Cedar Park location, traveling once a week to Georgetown.

Responsibilities

Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.

Review patient medication and health history; may impact surgical clearance from other providers.

Reserve operating room date and time; schedule anesthesia, surgical assistant and any outside surgical representatives or equipment.

Coordinate, schedule and authorize pre‑operative clearance testing and any diagnostic imaging (e.g., CT, MRI, US, X‑ray) and scan surgical documents into EMR as applicable (signed orders, consents, cardiac clearance, authorizations).

Obtain and communicate pre‑operative testing information and results as directed by the physician.

Obtain necessary insurance authorization and pre‑certification from insurance companies with proper CPT and ICD‑10 codes.

Serve as patient advocate and liaison between patient, payor, office and facility to answer questions and resolve issues.

Ensure reports (pathology, OR, etc.) are captured in chart, obtain missing pathology reports and schedule any needed follow‑up appointments.

Sequence, prioritize, follow up and multi‑task multiple provider inputs.

Support and adhere to US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Qualifications

Level 1

High school diploma or equivalent required.

0–2 years of surgical practice/office work experience, including insurance authorization, verification, and scheduling; ability to explain patient responsibility per benefits plan.

Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to multitask.

Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).

Level 2

At least three years of experience in a clinical or procedural scheduling environment, including insurance authorization, verification, and scheduling; ability to explain patient responsibility per benefits plan.

Level Sr

High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

At least five years of surgical practice/office work experience, including insurance authorization, verification, and scheduling; ability to explain patient responsibility per benefits plan.

Physical Requirements
Requires full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal limits.
