Overview

The University of Virginia is a highly competitive Division I program committed to academic and athletic excellence. The Department of Athletics at the University of Virginia is accepting applications for the position of Seasonal Sports Dietitian to support the department's Sports Nutrition office. Under the direction of the Director of Sports Nutrition, this position is primarily responsible for the development and coordination of optimal nutritional services for Division I student-athletes and the Athletics Department of the University of Virginia. This position will contribute to both football nutrition and Olympic sports nutrition. In addition to providing nutrition education, other duties include managing the central fueling station; overseeing undergraduate student volunteers; stocking off-site fueling locations; assisting in the daily operation of feeding student-athletes; receiving deliveries; managing inventory; and performing other duties to support the objectives and goals of the unit, Department of Athletics, and University.
The position is intended to be a one-year position with the potential to renew for a second year. Anticipated hiring rate: $17.00/hour. This is a wage non-benefits position limited to 1500 hours of work per year.
Responsibilities

Develop and coordinate optimal nutritional services for Division I student-athletes and the Athletics Department.
Provide nutrition education to student-athletes as part of the Sports Nutrition office.
Manage the central fueling station and oversee undergraduate student volunteers.
Stock off-site fueling locations and assist in the daily operation of feeding student-athletes.
Receive deliveries, manage inventory, and support related unit objectives.
Perform other duties as necessary to support the Sports Nutrition program and department goals.
Minimum Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (4+ years) of related experience in a field related to Sports Nutrition.
Experience:

Some experience in a field related to Sports Nutrition is required.
Licensure:

None
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and written communication skills; ability to work with diverse constituencies; accurate, detail-oriented work; ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain confidentiality; ability to make sound judgments independently or as part of a team; ability to instruct, counsel and direct student-athletes and support staff; awareness of nutrition needs and pressures faced by collegiate student-athletes.
Computer Applications:

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Physical:

The ability to lift 25 pounds regularly.
Driver’s License:

Must have valid driver’s license and transportation.
Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Master’s Degree in a field related to Sports Nutrition is preferred.
Experience:

Experience in sports nutrition, exercise physiology, and with skin-fold measurements is preferred.
Licensure:

Registered Dietitian through the AND/CDR is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred.
Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The role may require traveling to attend meetings and programs.
