Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at an acute care hospital in Alton, IL, requiring at least 1 year of experience and active IL licensure.
Details
Acute Medical Unit in a 222-bed hospital setting
24-bed unit caring for adult and geriatric medical, surgical, and telemetry patients
Patient population includes acutely ill adults and geriatric patients with general medicine, surgical, or infectious disease conditions that may require telemetry monitoring for non-acute cardiac conditions
Patients may require advanced medication infusions; weaning/decreasing drips is permitted, but titration increases are not
Excludes patients with active/unstable GI bleeding, uncontrolled ischemic chest pain with unstable vital signs, continuous NPPV, or specific high-acuity medications (TNK, insulin drip, neosynephrine, nipride)
Average daily census of 16–18 patients
Night shift: 7p–7:30a, 3x12-hour shifts, with both weekday and weekend shifts required
Patient ratio of 1:5 on nights
No on-call requirements
Epic EMR (experience preferred)
Floating required within service line and scope of practice
Qualifications
Active IL RN license required; pending IL license may be accepted — note this when applying
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
CPI certification preferred
Minimum 1 year of acute care med/surg or telemetry nursing experience required
EKG rhythm identification skills required
Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips required
Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted
Additional Information
Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, EKG rhythm identification, administration of advanced medication infusions, pre- and post-procedure evaluation, and neurological assessment and care of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and TIA patients
Navy scrubs required

Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Travelers may work up to 18 months consecutively, after which a 3-month break in service is required
RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
