Job Description
Who will you be working with?
The Friction Product Line designs and manufactures high-friction and low-friction composition, sintered brake shoes, specialty shoes, and disc brake linings for freight, locomotive and transit vehicles.
How will you make a difference?
The
Research & Development (R&D) Technician
plays a key role in the evaluation and development of composite friction materials. This position supports R&D efforts through hands‑on involvement in mixing, molding, and testing processes, as well as accurate documentation and reporting of test results.
What do we want to know about you?
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
Associate degree or bachelor’s Degree preferred
Five (5) years relevant manufacturing experience
What will your typical day look like?
Prepare test samples for physical property testing.
Perform mixing activities for R&D test batches
Molding and post‑baking R&D samples in accordance with established procedures
Accurately record, maintain, and update test data and databases
Audit production batches to verify quality and compliance
Test new and existing products to ensure consistency and performance standardsSupport investigations and troubleshooting of production‑related issues
Regular on‑site attendance is required
Other duties as assigned by supervision

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
Regularly lift a minimum of fifty pounds (50 lbs).
Frequently stand, walk, bend, crouch, push and pull.
Regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and extreme heat (non-weather).
Occasionally exposed to airborne particles.
The hourly range for this role is between $26.00 – $26.50. The actual hourly rate offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands, and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
