Note: This is an on-call position. Work shifts will be assigned based on the number of scheduled intramural events, the employee's availability, and their ability and/or willingness to officiate a minimum of two league sports per semester.
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Intramural Sports & Day Camp Coordinator, the Student Intramural Lead is responsible for the overall coordination and general supervision of the Student Recreation Center (SRC) Intramural sports program. This role assists with gameplay operations, staff oversight, and enforcement of program policies to ensure a safe, organized, and engaging recreational experience for all participants.
Job Duties:
Assists the Intramural Sports & Day Camp Coordinator with general supervision of the SRC Intramurals program, ensuring smooth gameplay operations and logistics
Assists in the recruitment, training, and supervision of the Student Intramurals Officials
Coordinates gameplay setup and delegates sport league-specific tasks to Student Intramural Officials, providing support as needed
Manages unforeseen cancellations, coordinates gameplay schedules, and assigns Student Intramural Officials to designated game sites
Ensures that the preparation and inspection of the game site is maintained in a clean, safe, and organized manner by moving and/or lifting sports equipment as needed
Ensures compliance with gameplay and contest rules, regulations, policies, and procedures as outlined in the SRC Intramural Sports Handbook
Provides recommendations regarding policies, procedures, and playing rules for the SRC Intramural Sports Staff Handbook
Communicates the sport league and contest rules to participants before the start of each game
Addresses and resolves in-game conflicts and reports the outcome to the Intramural Sports & Day Camp Coordinator
Responds appropriately to a variety of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies and civil disturbances, and coordinates and/or executes emergency procedures as needed
Compiles scores for Intramural games in accordance with National Intramural Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) and CSUN Intramural regulations
Acts as Student Intramural Official or Student Clerical Assistant in the event of unexpected absences or to fill occasional vacancies in the schedule
Facilitates program participant check-ins and issues necessary equipment for participation
Carries out key holder responsibilities for SRC Intramurals, including managing access to the game site areas, storage facility, SRC Intramurals office, and SRC laundry room
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education
Must be a currently enrolled CSUN student
Experience
Previous related experience and/or specialized education required
Experience officiating sports leagues required
Certifications
American Red Cross or department approved First Aid, CPR, and AED certification shall be obtained within 30 days. Training is periodically offered free of charge by the USU. Applicants unable to attend USU-sponsored training are required to obtain certification at their own expense
Other Requirements
Must be able to attend mandatory in-person SRC and USU employee orientation and trainings
Must be able to attend monthly mandatory in-person staff meetings
This position is a sensitive position as designated by the CSU. Typical Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed both in indoor and outdoor environments in possible inclement weather conditions. Daily contact with members of the campus community, including students, faculty, staff, administrators and guests, is required. In addition to regularly assigned work schedule, must possess an ability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, holidays, finals weeks, and during academic interim and break periods; must be flexible, adaptable, and readily able to adjust to changes in work environment.
Physical Abilities:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of Student Intramurals Lead.
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will be required to sit, stand, and walk for a vast majority of all work shifts; talk and hear; be able to detect smoke, heat and subtle smells. Must be able to independently move and/or lift equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required and includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
