EDM Machinist II

Micro-Tronics is seeking an EDM Machinist II to join our team. In this role, you will set up and operate Electrical Discharge Machines (EDM) to support secondary operations and produce complex, high-precision components. This position requires hands-on experience with EDM machining, a solid understanding of blueprints and GD&T, and the ability to troubleshoot and maintain quality in a production environment. You will play a key role in supporting operational excellence through quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Key Interactions and Relationships
Routine interactions includes coworkers, Quality, Engineering, and Planning departments.
Job Responsibilities:
Primary Routine Work
Set up and operate EDM equipment (including Wire EDM and/or Small Hole, if applicable)
Manufacture electrodes and fixtures to support machining processes
Interpret blueprints and GD&T to ensure accurate part production
Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools
Troubleshoot non-conformances and adjust tooling or machine controls as needed
Apply knowledge of machine capabilities to optimize processes
Record production data including setup/run times and part quantities
Complete preventive maintenance tasks and maintain equipment performance
Recommend tooling and fixture improvements
Deburr, clean, and package finished parts
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment (5S standards)
Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to resolve issues
KPI's
Cost - Setup Time: demonstrate ability to meet or exceed posted department setup time reduction goals.
Quality - Scrap Rate: maintain a scrap percentage rate of less than 750 PPM.
Delivery - On Time: complete tasks within the assigned timeframe.
Non-Routine Work
Assist other departments as needed.
Attend company meetings.
Implement process improvements.
Job Qualifications:
Training and Experience Requirements:
Minimum 4 years' work experience, trade school, vocational education or apprenticeship required.
Minimum 2 years' experience in EDM machining.
Practical experience with conventional machining, desirable.
Ability to use manual inspection tools required.
Practical application of machine shop mathematics.
Exposure to basic CAD/CAM, desirable.
Experience in WEDM and Small Hole, desirable.
Education, Licenses and Certifications
High School diploma, or GED required.
Trade school, vocational education, or 4-year apprenticeship with 3-years work experience acceptable, in lieu of High School diploma or GED.
College course work, desirable.
