Job Description
Position title: Academic Intervention Specialist – Migrant Focus

Reports to: Building Principal

Primary Purpose
The Academic Intervention Specialist is responsible for instructing identified students that have demonstrated academic difficulties in literacy and math. The work requires a broad understanding and detailed knowledge of effective research-based instructional strategies in literacy and math.

Essential Functions

Develop and implement a remediation plan for identified students using assessment data such as pre‑assessments, DIBELS, WELPA, and classroom-based assessments.

Provide targeted instruction to identified students using strategies designed to increase literacy and math achievement.

Implement best practices and instructional strategies to ensure language proficiency progress and achievement.

Monitor and assess student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.

Assist classroom teachers in the diagnosis of students and collaborate in planning instructional strategies.

Collaborate and confer with grade level PLCs for the purpose of identifying, assessing and evaluating EL students’ language acquisition progress.

Assist in the selection of appropriate materials utilized by the classroom teacher for corrective measures.

Implement ELP standards for the purpose of ensuring EL students’ language acquisition and access to the general curriculum.

Provide demonstrations of new methods and materials to staff.

Maintain an accurate account of literacy/math services provided through individual files/records and data collection.

Provide timely progress reports to classroom teachers.

Collaborate and confer with Special Education resource management team for the purpose of eliminating language proficiency as a concern prior to referral for Special Education Services.

Other Functions

Communicate with Pre‑K providers in the community regarding transitions to kindergarten and kindergarten readiness – (Sun Valley only)

Participate in required staff meetings, in‑service, and PLCs.

Develop and maintain positive and cooperative interactions and communication with school staff, clients, and the community.

Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures.

Working Relationships
Reports to building principal or designee. Interacts with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and parents. Develops and maintains positive and cooperative interactions and communication with school staff, clients, and the community.

Working Conditions
The work is performed primarily indoors with some requirements for outdoor supervision and activities. The individual is required to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel and crouch. Occasional reaching and lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in Early Childhood (Sun Valley Elementary) or Elementary Education.

Experience with data collection and data analysis preferred.

Experience with K‑5 alignment preferred.

Experience with Pre‑K alignment preferred – (Sun Valley Elementary only).

Experience with implementation of WaKIDS – (Sun Valley Elementary only).

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Washington State Teaching Certification with appropriate endorsement.

Ability to use relevant technology effectively.

Licenses/Special Requirements:

Washington State Teaching Certification with appropriate endorsement.

Valid Washington State Drivers license or photo identification.

Social Security Card.

WSP/FBI fingerprint/background clearance.

Job Requirements
