Job Description
JOB GOAL
: To structure the learning environment to study the integrated social studies program outlined by the LRSD Curriculum Guides. To help students learn subject matter and master skills that will contribute to their overall development as mature, able, and responsible learners through establishing, maintaining, and reiteratively communicating clear behavior and learning expectations for all learners. To consistently strive to improve performance in order to aid students in meeting learning targets and goals and to provide frequent and ongoing feedback to learners and stakeholders regarding their progress toward those goals to ensure that every learner experiences success at high levels.
SUMMARY
: The vision of Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy is to leverage support from families and community stakeholders to provide meaningful and engaging learning experiences to grow and equip leaders who will shape and impact the world in positive ways. The academy seeks to provide a rigorous, structured academic setting where leaders learn and learners lead. Students will benefit from opportunities designed to equip them with the necessary tools to lead within and beyond the school, so they can positively impact their communities and society.
We believe that all students can learn and deserve a quality educational experience in a safe environment. Using quality, grade-level instruction, coupled with engaging, meaningful, and affirmative educational experiences, we cultivate and nurture an environment that celebrates diverse strengths of learners, preparing them to achieve success at high levels.
With the School Wellness Wheel framework as our foundation, the academy will address trauma, promote wellbeing, and elevate learning for all by implementing mastery-based learning opportunities, a growth-based educational approach, and strength-based instruction in every classroom. Learners will engage in high levels of hands‑on experiences, real-world investigations, and applied literacy and mathematics learning, and will have opportunities in STREAM (science, technology, reading/writing, engineering, arts, and mathematics) from kindergarten through eighth grade.
Terms of Employment
This position is a Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days) plus a benefits package.
NOTE:
Precise placement in the salary range will be determined based on experience and district guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.
Qualifications
Must meet Arkansas certification requirements in Middle School (4‑8) or Secondary (7‑12) Social Studies.
ESOL endorsement preferred.
Demonstrates willingness to try new teaching and assessment strategies that benefit all students.
Willingness to participate in ongoing staff development.
Ability to teach to differences and sensitivity to cultural differences.
Commitment to staff development and applying new techniques in the classroom.
Demonstrates conviction that all children can and will learn at Lacey Academy.
Evidence of strong commitment to desegregated education.
Ability and willingness to articulate student progress clearly and frequently to students and parents.
Evidence of ability to design and implement hands‑on activities and thematic units in the content areas.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Submission of a 5‑10 minute video demonstrating the learning experience in your classroom required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Embrace the K‑8 school configuration and best practices, maintaining high expectations and promoting student success in a student‑centered environment.
Support the vision and mission by collaborating with administration and all staff to create a positive, safe, learner‑centered environment.
Maintain accurate, complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life, conduct, wellness, and academic mastery.
Plan instruction to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth; assess student progress and modify techniques; plan a program of study that meets individual needs and interests.
Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; integrate skills into units and learning centers.
Prepare for instruction and provide written evidence upon request; employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet student needs.
Implement innovative, research‑based strategies and programs under consideration by the building or district; collect data and assist in preparing narratives and statistical reports.
Serve as a model classroom, allowing observers and providing technical assistance and resources to other teachers.
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate; encourage students to set, monitor, maintain high standards for behavior; develop reasonable rules and procedures.
Maintain inventory of equipment and keep the classroom clean and orderly.
Monitor activities to prevent accidents and promote social skills, taking necessary precautions to protect students and materials.
Be available to students and parents outside instructional time when required, facilitating parent involvement and community decision‑making.
Promote community spirit and use encouraging, constructive communication with children, parents, and staff.
Teach assigned classes, collaborate with team members, attend staff meetings, and commit time to district/school-sponsored staff development.
Structure the classroom for cooperative learning activities and enable students to engage in the program outlined by the LRSD Curriculum Guides.
Plan a program that, as much as possible, meets individual needs with a mastery‑based approach and differentiated instruction.
Assess accomplishments and provide regular feedback to students and reports as required.
Demonstrate knowledge of lab safety procedures for potential accident situations.
Assist in identifying and utilizing community resources such as field trips.
Take primary responsibility for teaching social studies‑related content and coaching/sponsoring competitions such as History Day.
Actively improve professional competence.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
