Job Description
JOB GOAL:

To structure the learning environment to study the integrated science program outlined by the LRSD Curriculum Guides, help students learn subject matter and master skills that will contribute to their overall development as mature, able, and responsible learners, and consistently strive to improve performance in order to aid students in meeting learning targets and goals.

SUMMARY:

The vision of the Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy is to provide a rigorous, structured academic setting where leaders learn and learners lead, supporting families and community stakeholders to provide engaging learning experiences that equip learners with the necessary tools to positively impact their communities and society.

Terms of Employment
This position is a Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month contract (190 days), with a benefits package. Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based on experience and LRSD’s salary placement guidelines. FLSA: EXEMPT.

Qualifications

Must meet Arkansas certification requirements in Middle School Science 4-8 and/or Earth/Life/Physical Science 7-12.

ESOL endorsement preferred.

Evidence of ability to design and implement hands‑on activities in all thematic units and facilitate interdisciplinary studies.

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Embrace the K-8 school configuration and best practices, promote student success, and adopt a student-centered focus.

Support the vision and mission by working collaboratively with administration and staff to create a positive, safe, learner-centered environment.

Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.

Assist administration in implementing all policies and procedures governing student life, conduct, wellness, and academic mastery.

Plan instruction that promotes social, physical, and intellectual growth, assess student progress, and modify instructional techniques to meet individual student needs.

Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals by establishing and communicating clear objectives, integrating skills into units and learning centers.

Prepare for instruction and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.

Implement innovative, research-based instructional strategies and assessments, collect data, and collaborate to prepare performance reports.

Serve as a model classroom, provide technical assistance, and share resources with other teachers.

Create a conducive learning environment that encourages high standards for classroom behavior and develops reasonable rules.

Maintain the inventory of equipment, furniture, and center items; keep the classroom clean and orderly.

Monitor activities to prevent accidents and promote social skills, taking necessary precautions.

Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required.

Promote community spirit by communicating constructively with children, parents, and staff.

Teach assigned classes in designated locations and times, collaborate with grade-level teams, attend staff meetings, and participate in staff development.

Perform hands‑on experiments with students and structure cooperative learning activities.

Implement the integrated science program outlined by LRSD Curriculum Guides, giving precedence to interdisciplinary opportunities.

Use a mastery-based learning approach and differentiate instruction to meet individual needs.

Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress monitoring, and report as required.

Demonstrate knowledge of lab safety procedures.

Coach/sponsor student participation in competitions such as Science Fair.

Assist in identifying and utilizing community resources such as field trips.

Continuously improve professional competence.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly sits, stands, walks, climbs stairs, operates foot and hand controls, uses a telephone, writes, and occasionally lifts or moves up to twenty (20) or more pounds. The role requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials, and providing oral information. The employee must work during the daily contracted time period and be physically present, with only infrequent unexcused absences, throughout the contract year.
