
Data Center Facility Engineer, AWS

AWS Infrastructure Services operates the AWS global infrastructure, ensuring data centers run smoothly. This role works with a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts and operations managers to maintain safety and security while delivering capacity at low cost.
Key Job Responsibilities
Operate and maintain AWS Data Center mechanical and electrical infrastructure following a process‑oriented approach. Oversee facility operations and implement safety procedures.
Follow and maintain the highest safety standards, encouraging a world‑class safety culture.
Own safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.
Support electrical and mechanical equipment: UPS, Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, ATS, Diesel Generators, Chillers, HVAC, Exhaust Fans, VFD, Transformers.
Operate and maintain mechanical and electrical equipment, including generators, HVAC and fire/life safety systems.
Troubleshoot facility and rack‑level events within internal SLAs.
Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures.
Drive innovation while reducing operational costs in the facilities.
Day in the Life
Work rotational shifts of 4 days of 12‑hour shifts (2 days followed by 2 nights), 4 days off (including night, weekends and holidays). Respond to on‑call rotation for off‑duty emergency calls. Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment. Supervise contractors who perform servicing or preventive maintenance. Perform tasks such as moving objects, working in outdoor weather conditions, noisy environments, at heights and from ladders.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical or similar engineering, project management, construction management or similar technical focus.
Knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, controls).
Knowledge of key electrical competencies and theory.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in data center engineering.
Experience leading and managing operations of critical facilities requiring in‑depth knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and control systems.
Knowledge of BMS and EPMS control systems and data collection/trending.
