About the Position
The academic field of this position is Operating Room Nursing at the master’s level. The role emphasizes research and educational development. Candidates are expected to contribute actively to innovative teaching methods, student‑active learning, digital education, and lifelong learning.
Main Responsibilities
Teaching, supervision, and assessment of master’s students in operating room nursing
Course coordination, teaching planning, and programme development
Continuous development of own teaching using innovative and digital methods
Individual and team‑based supervision of clinical mentors
Supervision of PhD candidates or candidates qualifying for associate lecturer positions
Integration of research into teaching
Participation in research groups or research centres
Scholarly publishing and research dissemination
Collaboration with clinical practice partners and external stakeholders
Participation in committees and councils at faculty and institutional levels
About the Department
The Department of Nursing and Health Sciences offers high‑quality education, including a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, several professional master’s programmes – among them the Master’s Programme in Operating Room Nursing – and an interdisciplinary Master’s Programme in Health Service Innovation and Technology. The academic fields collaborate across departments and faculties at USN and with external partners at local, national, and international levels.
The department hosts research environments of high national and international standard, focusing on ageing, clinical competence, advanced nursing practice and women’s health. It includes two research centres: the Centre for Health and Technology and the Centre for Care Research.
Physical presence on campus is emphasized to promote belonging and a positive working environment.
Required Qualifications – Associate Professor
Completed PhD or equivalent within operating room nursing or related fields (applicants near completion may apply)
Documented active research with potential for further development
Experience in research processes; participation in or leadership of research projects is desirable
Experience with digital teaching methods, supervision of master’s students, and simulation‑based education is desirable
Language Requirements
Documented proficiency in Norwegian at minimum B2 level according to the CEFR framework is required. Applicants lacking this documentation may be employed on the condition that B2‑level competence is achieved within three years. Proficiency in Swedish or Danish is considered equivalent. USN offers Norwegian language training.
Educational Qualifications
Applicants must document pedagogical and didactic competence in higher education. Associate Professors must have completed at least 200 hours of university‑level pedagogical training or commit to completing this within two years of employment.
