The Children's advocate is responsible for ensuring that all victims of abuse referred to at the Children's Recovery Center are treated with dignity, respect, courtesy and sensitivity. The Children’s Advocate acts as the child's personal advocate.

Duties:

The following description covers the most significant duties performed but does not exclude other work assignments not specifically mentioned.

Conduct pre-appointment client intakes for Georgetown Clients and coordinate with CRC staff and MDT partners to schedule clients.

Explaining the Children's Recovery Center's forensic interview and forensic medical exam process to the child and parent/guardian and answersany questions they may have about this process.

Aids each eligible victim in applying for assistance, social service, and counseling assistance. Ensures all victims of crimes are aware of their rights in each case.

Intervenes with and seeks assistance from appropriate agencies and works with other parties as considered appropriate through the investigative process.

Follows updates and changes to applicable laws related to victims’ rights. Maintains familiarity with the statutes pertaining to protect orders, restraining orders, etc., and follows established procedures for obtaining required orders as necessary for a victim.

Ensures all measures necessary are taken to protect the victims and witnesses from further harassment, intimidation, or abuse throughout the criminal justice system.

Attends bond hearings and other proceedings with the victim or on behalf of the victim if they cannot Speaks on behalf of the victim and or keeps notations and later informs victims of the outcome.

Contact referral agencies whose assistance may be needed to assist in the investigation and complete the paperwork required for each agency.

Prepares, processes, and transmits various reports as needed and provides the Director of Operations with all statistical and financial information required to maintain existing and potential funding through governmental and private grants.

Attends required periodic training Attend seminars and conferences as required to remain knowledgeable of operations and promote job performance. Maintains VSP (Victim Service Provider) status by attending appropriate training annually.

Acts as the Georgetown MDT Coordinator, scheduling and facilitating all MDT (multidisciplinary team) Georgetown Case Review Meetings held on the last Friday of each month.

Assist in outreach efforts in Georgetown County; may include some nights/weekends. Comp time will be given for nights/weekends worked, there is no overtime pay.

Translate for other employees and MDT partners when necessary for Spanish Speaking Clients.

Required Education, Skills, and Abilities:

A bachelor's degree in an appropriate field such as criminal justice, psychology, or social. Must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid SC Driver's license.

Demonstrate effective communication skills both written and orally.

Demonstrate a wide range of computer skills including and not limited to: Microsoft office, Collaborate Database, Adobe and Vidanyx software.
