Position Summary
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography, managing daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self‑motivated to increase knowledge of the field, disease, and new procedures as they evolve.
Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age‑related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area.
Completes assigned scans in a timely manner.
Observes, reports significant physical or safety status changes in the patient’s condition to the Nursing Staff, Perinatologist and/or designated physician.
Operates equipment as directed.
Positions and transfers patients comfortably and safely.
Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients correctly.
Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful and consistent manner.
Maintains equipment for optimum usage availability.
Assembles methods and necessary information and film for Perinatologist.
Explains procedures to the patients to assure cooperation and optimum test results.
Makes hard copy images as directed and documents tests as completed.
Disinfects vaginal probes and maintains log as needed.
Conducts scanning procedures using ultrasonic equipment.
Performs ultrasonic diagnostic procedures as ordered by physician for patients.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma. Minimum 1 year of experience. ARDMS certification.
Required Licenses
Reg Ultrasound Tech - Cert.
Preferred Qualifications
Adult and Pediatric ED experience.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
