JUVENILE INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of Juvenile Intervention Specialist.
The Juvenile Intervention Specialist works in the daily supervision of juveniles assigned to the Eugene Gregory Memorial Youth Academy, Consequence Alternative Sanctions Unit and the Sheriff's Work Ethic and Training (S.W.E.A.T.) program under the Juvenile Justice Division.
Required Document
Each applicant must complete a NOTARIZED Background Investigation Waiver. Failure to submit this document will disqualify your application. The waiver must be notarized and submitted with the pre‑screen application.

Responsibilities
Provides direct supervision to juveniles assigned to the SWEAT and Consequence Alternative for Youth (CASU) Program and performs contraband searches of juveniles as needed.
Conducts daily intake (search and seizure) on all youth that enter the building for the Eugene Gregory Memorial Youth Academy (EGMYA), including youth in the GED program and those brought into the STAY center for truancy.
Conducts urinalysis as requested by a Juvenile Probation Officer or Supervisor.
Supervises and instructs juveniles in the assigned work, ensuring it is performed to standards.
Provides transportation for juveniles to and from work sites.
Provides behavior management intervention for juveniles assigned to EGMYA by intervening when necessary to permit uninterrupted delivery of educational services by School Board staff.
Prepares various specialized and statistical reports as required.
Ensures cleanliness of the area of assigned responsibility.
Supervises and interacts with juveniles, male and female, to build rapport and provide positive guidance.
Communicates effectively and coherently with JIS staff, law enforcement, and SCPS staff using existing communication systems, demonstrating communication skills in formal settings as required.
Performs de‑escalation functions to recognize abnormal behavior and take appropriate action.
Performs other duties as required or as may be necessary for the efficient and effective performance of the position functions.
Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED; Associate's Degree preferred.
One (1) year of responsible work experience involving law enforcement‑related duties or dealing with youth, preferred.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of related training, education, and experience.
Must be able to complete PAR curriculum within six (6) months of employment or assignment to this position.
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee’s duties for this position, to include scheduled work hours, required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs, and calls for service during times of an emergency.
Knowledge of Sheriff’s Office rules and regulations as applied to the juvenile population that we serve; ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior; analyze information or situations; synthesize information and/or circumstances; solve problems independently; recall facts and/or information; describe persons, things and/or events; read and comprehend information; show courtesy; speak clearly; prepare written reports; operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner with passengers; operate heavy machinery such as pressure washers, lawn mowers, gas‑powered equipment; work independently without constant supervision; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Working Conditions
The work environment for this position is a combination of classroom and outdoor settings. The incumbent generally performs work in a standing or walking position for extended periods of time and may be required to lift up to 50 lbs without assistance. This position is required to drive and transport youth to various locations within the County of Seminole. Some evenings and weekends will be required. The position involves direct contact with delinquent youth and may require the use of force to maintain control.
Physical Attributes Requirements
Mobility: Frequent standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, stooping, bending, climbing stairs, required to drive an agency vehicle and/or transport juveniles; constant use of a computer.
Lifting: Able to lift 50 pounds.
Visual: Constant overall vision; color perception; constant eye‑hand coordination; frequent reading/close‑up work; constant field of vision/peripheral.
Dexterity: Frequent repetitive motion and reaching.
Hearing/Talking: Constant requirement to hear normal speech; constant hearing on the telephone and radio; constant talking on the telephone/radio.
Emotional/Psychological: Potential contact with hostile individuals; exposure to emergency situations; may be exposed to trauma, grief, and death; frequent public contact; decision‑making and concentration.
Special Requirements: Ability to work at least one Saturday a month. Ability to behave respectfully and with utmost integrity even when off duty. May be required to respond for any critical incident, manmade or natural.
Environmental: Exposure to varied weather conditions.
