The Physical Therapist Assistant provides direct therapy procedures and interventions under the General/Direct supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist based on placement of service. This position requires population specific competencies and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals appropriate for the level of patient contact required.

Responsibilities

Assesses patient performance commensurate with training and qualifications, recommending equipment or alterations to architectural barriers to the therapist of record.

May act as clinical instructor and assist with orientation of new employees or volunteers.

Organizes and implements therapeutic exercise, functional training related to physical movement and mobility in self‑care, community and work settings, manual therapy techniques, prescription, application, and fabrication of devices and equipment, airway clearance techniques, wound management, and electrotherapeutic modalities.

Educates patients served and other stakeholders.

Communicates and documents treatment and appropriate charges per policy and procedure.

Demonstrates time‑management skills, offers assistance to other therapist staff when caseloads are unbalanced, and respects decisions by authority.

Supports planning, implementation, and evaluation of department performance.

Reports to the Therapist delegating a patient and the assigned Manager/Director.

Accepts additional physical demands and/or respiratory fit‑test requirements as needed.

Manages moderate exposure to hazardous risks (infections, blood, bodily fluids, chemicals, sharp equipment).

Mitigates potential bodily injury related to lifting and cumulative stress.

Handles potential workplace violence from agitated or combative patients or angry family members.

Follows universal safety precautions.

Manages frequent exposure to hydrocollator, oven, stove, microwave and heat gun, chemicals, and noise.

Copes with high case loads and multiple demands.

May float to other units, require on‑call status, work weekends or a flex schedule, work with wheelchairs, walkers, and other rehab equipment daily.

Exposes to grease, tools with sharp edges, and lifting equipment.

Works in aquatics; handles frequent exposure to pool chemicals, heat, and humidity.

Conducts community re‑entry and home evaluations, exposing to traffic and weather while riding or driving with patients.

Manages high stress levels and potential accidents involving property damage, injury, or death.

Faces frequent exposure to weather extremes.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

Associate’s Degree from an accredited school or university.

Current Oklahoma Physical Therapy Assistant license.

PTA (Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant) or Temporary PTA (Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant).

BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.

Effective communication skills in English (verbal and written).
