Overview
The Blood Donor RN and team are responsible for Therapeutic Apheresis Collections, including Red Blood Cell Exchanges, Plasma Exchanges, Photopheresis, and stem cell collections (both inpatient and outpatient settings). Staff will be responsible for patient care during procedures, as well as charting, drawing labs, line care, and handling adverse reactions. The Registered Nurse II, Blood Donor Center, is part of a multidisciplinary team for coordination and medical and procedural management of therapeutic apheresis patients and blood donors. They perform therapeutic apheresis procedures on pediatric patients, and platelet-pheresis and blood collection procedures on CHLA blood donors. They also participate in quality, compliance, and research initiatives in Transfusion Medicine. They work cohesively with patients, families, blood donors, nurses, physicians, clinical lab scientists, technicians, and quality specialists at CHLA.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include Therapeutic Apheresis Collections and related patient care during procedures, charting, lab draws, line care, and management of adverse reactions. They participate in quality, compliance, and research initiatives in Transfusion Medicine and coordinate care with a multidisciplinary team.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 1+ yr. RN experience, Blood collection, Apheresis experience. Dialysis inpatient hospital, Intensive Care Unit or Emergency Room experience preferred.
I.V. Placement and/or phlebotomy skills, aptitude to work with technical equipment, fluid balance, and the ability to remain calm, safe, and capable in emergency donor room situations.
Education/Licensure/Certifications
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
California Registered Nurse License.
American Heart Association BLS & PALS required.
