4-H Coordinator- San Juan County

Overview

The San Juan County Office of Utah State University Extension seeks a qualified individual to assist in coordinating countywide youth programs consistent with the county 4‑H team. Duties include recruiting volunteers and teen leaders to actively lead 4‑H clubs and events, providing educational experiences, and representing the principles of positive youth development through 4‑H. This position generally requires 20‑25 hours per week, is located in San Juan County, and does not include benefits.
Responsibilities

Advance the 4‑H program in the county by recruiting and training volunteers and youth leaders to organize and run 4‑H clubs, and provide support and guidance to existing and new volunteers and 4‑H clubs.
Promote regional and state 4‑H programs, including marketing, registering, and supporting volunteers in facilitating opportunities.
Support a variety of Extension outreach activities such as farm field day, career days, camps, and teen leadership programs.
Respond promptly and professionally to requests, office visits, telephone calls, emails, and other correspondence.
Serve as an active member of the USU Youth Programs Team, participating in meetings, working groups, and regional and state events.
Support the Civil Rights mandate of Utah State University Extension and implement innovative approaches to reach diverse audiences.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Some college or related experience.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, excellent organizational skills, and basic computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet, Zoom, etc.).
Desire to work with volunteers and youth leaders.
Reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with 4‑H or other youth-serving organizations.
Experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
Knowledge of the land‑grant university system.
Prior experience with community programming.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to teach, manage, and engage an audience (youth and adult).
Strong computer and technology skills—Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
Ability to market USU Extension youth program events and opportunities.
Ability to effectively utilize social media to raise awareness of opportunities.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to pleasantly interact with a wide variety of individuals.
Ability to work nights and weekends.
Ability to travel throughout the area of responsibility, occasional statewide, consistent with university policy.
Strong organizational, time, and project management skills.
Ability to work from home.
