Job Summary
The Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for the Departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery's financial, administrative, and human resource functions. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and departmental operations to support clinical, research, and educational missions. The Business Manager partners with departmental leadership and institutional stakeholders to ensure efficient use of resources, adherence to policies and regulations, and long-term financial sustainability.
Responsibilities
Financial Management
In-depth understanding of USG fund accounting processes, chart of accounts, CFCs, and Peoplesoft.
Preparation of financial reports regarding departmental operations; assist with annual department budgets.
Monitor and maintain department accounts; address payroll, requisitions, and related issues.
Maintain healthy funding balances to avoid deficits and budget check errors; prepare quarterly analyses of available funding.
Overall Operations
Manage out-processing of departing department faculty and staff; assist with contracts; track status updates for all work.
Ensure all processes are completed timely; manage building/facility/moving needs with Business Operations Specialist; support departmental education programs.
Develop understanding of departmental structure, faculty, sections, and events; initiate and enforce new protocols, processes, or policies as needed.
Conference Coordinator
Coordinate and execute the annual CME stroke conference; manage venue and A/V contracts; create collateral and recruit exhibitors.
Understand and manage CME; maintain financial documents; communicate with registrants; prepare event items (badges, folders, etc.).
Business Operations
Understand AU and MCG processes (e.g., extra duty compensation, salary distributions, faculty effort tracking, RVU reporting, budget amendments, cost transfers, requisitions).
Serve as departmental signatory; process retired/rehire paperwork and salary epars; manage end-of-fiscal-year calendar and internal deadlines.
Ensure funding for travel and other needs; train stakeholders on spending policies.
Staff Management
Manage office support staff; handle HR documentation, postings, interviews, hires, onboarding, and annual reviews; ensure pay equity.
Serve as emergency point of contact and uphold AU HR guidelines.
Coverage/Back-up
Provide coverage for the Business Manager/Grant Manager and Department Administrator as needed.
Other
Perform urgent functions, assist with urgent reporting, and adapt to changing processes and responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration or related discipline with three years of administrative management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Higher education.
Working knowledge of AU policies and procedures.
Complete understanding of the structure and guidelines related to National Institute of Health sponsored projects.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Additional years of experience in accounting or finance.
Ability to maintain confidentiality; leadership and presentation skills.
Extensive knowledge of PeopleSoft; excellent verbal and written communication.
Staff management, training, feedback, coaching, and evaluations; knowledge of compliance and records management.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication; initiative, management, and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software/databases; knowledge of fiscal administration and budgetary principles.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours may be required for exempt level position)
Pay Band: B13
Salary Range: $68,500 annually - $87,300 annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range.
Conditions of Employment
All selected candidates are required to pass a Background Check prior to starting.
Credit check may be required for Positions of Trust or approved departmental Purchase Card usage.
Motor vehicle reports may be required for positions involving driving an Augusta University vehicle.
For Faculty Hires: provide degree transcripts and credential evaluations for foreign institution training.
All employees must maintain confidentiality and cybersecurity practices.
Credit Check
This position will require a Consumer Credit check as a condition of employment due to handling sensitive information.
