Social Media Producer

A Starting Point, Washington, District of Columbia, United States

A Starting Point (ASP) is looking for a Social Media Producer who lives online, understands what makes people stop scrolling, and knows how to turn complex issues into content people actually want to watch, share, and talk about.

This role is equal parts creative, strategist, and operator. You’ll own how ASP shows up across platforms—shaping our voice, building audience, and turning our content into something that lands in the group chat, not just the feed.

You’ll work daily with content focused on government, public policy, and politics—translating complex issues into clear, engaging, and nonpartisan content for a digital audience.

What You’ll Do

Own ASP’s social presence end-to-end—strategy, content, execution, and performance

Build and evolve our brand voice across platforms (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X, LinkedIn)

Develop content strategies that drive growth, engagement, and repeat viewership

Turn policy and current events into clear, scrollable, high‑performing content

Partner with editorial and production teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and balance across content

Appear on camera to break down policies, explain issues, and serve as a clear, credible voice of ASP’s editorial content (optional)

Manage posting schedules, edit and publish content, and actively monitor engagement

Analyze performance and optimize based on what’s actually working (not just what looks good)

Launch and test new content franchises and formats

Partner with sales and partnerships teams to build co‑branded campaigns that feel native to social

Source, build, and manage relationships with creators and collaborators

Stay ahead of platform trends, formats, and cultural moments—and know when to use them (and when not to)

What We’re Looking For

Strong writer and communicator—you know how to say more with less

Deep understanding of social platforms, especially Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube

Sharp editorial instincts—you know what’s interesting, what’s clear, and what people will engage with

Ability to translate complex topics (especially government and policy) into plain language

Can apply strong editorial judgment to what we cover, how we frame it, and how it shows up across platforms

Experienced with video and content production tools (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Frame.io, etc.)

Organized, accountable, and able to manage multiple workflows at once

Alignment with ASP’s nonpartisan mission and a genuine interest in civic engagement

Have experience launching or scaling social accounts

Understand how to build content that performs across multiple platforms (not just one)

Comfort working in a nonpartisan environment and presenting multiple perspectives fairly
