SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO) SPECIALIST
Role Summary
We are looking for an SEO Optimization Specialist who can own organic search performance end-to-end while working directly with clients. This role is not about surface-level SEO or generic reporting. You will be responsible for diagnosing SEO issues, implementing optimizations, explaining tradeoffs to clients, and showing measurable progress over time.
You should be equally comfortable inside Google Search Console as you are on a client call explaining why rankings moved or did not.
Core Responsibilities
Client Management and Communication
Serve as the primary SEO point of contact for assigned clients
Translate technical SEO findings into clear, actionable explanations clients can understand
Set realistic SEO expectations and timelines based on data, not promises
Lead SEO review calls and written performance updates
Push back when client requests conflict with SEO best practices, using evidence
Technical SEO
Audit websites for crawlability, indexation, site structure, and performance issues
Diagnose and resolve issues related to:
Index bloat and crawl budget waste
Canonicalization, redirects, and duplicate content
Core Web Vitals and page speed
XML sitemaps and robots.txt
Work with developers or internal teams to implement fixes correctly
On-Page and Content Optimization
Optimize pages for search intent, not just keywords
Improve title tags, meta descriptions, headings, internal linking, and schema
Identify thin, competing, or underperforming pages and recommend consolidation or pruning
Guide content strategy for local and hyperlocal SEO when applicable
Local SEO (If Applicable)
Optimize Google Business Profiles
Improve local landing pages and location-based content
Ensure NAP consistency and local ranking signals
Reporting and Analysis
Monitor performance using:
Google Search Console
Google Analytics (GA4)
SEO tools (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, or similar)
Analyze trends in impressions, clicks, rankings, and conversions
Explain causation vs correlation clearly to clients
Use data to justify next actions, not just describe past performance
What success looks like
Clients understand what is happening with their SEO and why
Technical SEO issues are identified early and resolved correctly
Organic visibility improves steadily, not randomly
Fewer reactive conversations, more strategic ones
SEO recommendations are trusted and acted on
Requirements
Required Skills and Experience
3+ years of hands-on SEO experience with real traffic and ranking responsibility
Proven experience working directly with clients
Strong technical SEO foundation
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to explain complex SEO topics without jargon
Comfortable challenging assumptions and defending recommendations with data
Experience collaborating with developers, designers, or product teams
Preferred qualifications
Experience with multi-location or real estate websites
Familiarity with CMS platforms (WordPress, custom CMS, IDX-based sites, etc.)
Understanding of how SEO interacts with paid search and CRO
Experience managing large sites with thousands of indexed pages
