SCOPE OF SERVICES
The Content Strategist is a creative professional who will help communicate complex government concepts to a general audience. They have a background in information architecture, website content management, and detailed research and analysis. They are also a skilled copywriter with the ability to translate complex topics into plain language.

This position will report to the Lead Digital Strategist.
TASKS:
• Create content requirements and outlines for guided experiences
• Write compelling plain language web copy for guided experiences in compliance with the web content style guide
• Interview subject matter experts from across the government to understand complex topics
• Create and audit inventory of existing features and functions
• Understand user behavior based on Google Analytics data
• Conduct research into city laws, policies, and processes
• Deliver high-quality content artifacts on strict deadlines
• Conduct quality assurance and provide critical feedback on other content workstreams
• Identify and track key performance indicators for content deliverables
MANDATORY SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Note: Candidates who do not have mandatory skills will not be considered
• t least 8 years of full-time experience in the role of content strategist, editorial strategist, information architect, or similar
• Strong copywriting skills with a portfolio of past work
• Experience writing to a style guide
• Strong research skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with experience organizing meetings and collaborating with stakeholders
• Project management skills with the ability to self-manage tasks and complete work on a deadline
• Basic Google Analytics skills: Be able to run reports on web traffic to inform content audits
• Experience using user research to inform decision-making

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

The successful candidate should possess the following:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant fields (e.g., Journalism, Communications, Creative writing, Digital media)
• Experience working in government, higher education, or non-profit organization
• Experience writing in plain language and at a sub-7th grade reading level
• Experience working in a modern content management system
• Experience navigating complex approval workflows and incorporating feedback from legal, policy, and executive stakeholders.
• Background in government with an understanding of how constituents interact with the government.
