About the Role
The Company is seeking a VP, External Communications for the Michigan Region. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic external communications plan that covers all lines of business in the region, including consumer, commercial, wealth and asset management, and corporate and investment banking. This role involves serving as the lead communications partner for the Michigan region, with a focus on proactive and reactive media relations, crisis communications, and building strong relationships with key reporters. The VP will also be involved in special projects, such as the ongoing integration of a major acquisition, and will work closely with government affairs and the community impact team to ensure a deep understanding of the local political, legislative, and civic environment.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree, with a preference for those with experience in banking or financial services, and a deep knowledge of the Michigan market, particularly Detroit's media, civic, and business landscape. A minimum of 8 years' experience in media relations, corporate positioning, thought leadership, and social media is required. The role demands an individual with excellent attention to detail, superb writing and editing skills, and the ability to deliver under tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will be a strategic problem solver, highly flexible, and capable of bringing order to chaos. Strong intellectual ability, a sense of humor, and the ability to earn the respect of key internal partners are also essential.
