A recent deal announced by inflight entertainment company Global Eagle and digital content provider Magzter will give airlines—and their passengers—access to thousands of local, regional and international magazines.

The initial rollout of the service will be made available to Global Eagle’s airline partners Dubai-based Fly Dubai and Brazil’s largest carrier, TAM Airlines.

Currently available as an app for iOS, Google Play, Windows 8, and others, Magzter is a web portal enabling users to buy and read digital magazines and books, featuring more than 3,000 North American and International titles from many of the world’s leading publishers.

A fast-growing digital publisher, Magzter boasts more than 18 million users in 175 countries with publishers including Hearst, Conde Nast, Haymarket, Forbes, Newsweek, Bloomberg, and many others.

Through this partnership, airlines will select content themselves from Magzter’s extensive digital library and then that content will be supplied to passengers via Global Eagle’s DTI eReader platform.

Global Eagle Entertainment is a market leading provider of digital reading software (DTI), which will distribute the new content to airline customers worldwide via its eReader platform, which is compatible with seatback and wireless inflight entertainment systems.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, Global Eagle provides film and television content, games and applications to more than 150 airlines worldwide.

“DTI’s eReader is the market’s leading digital reader for inflight systems, and through this agreement with Magzter, we are putting an emphasis on the importance and variety of content that airlines can offer passengers,” said Walé Adepoju, EVP, Customer Solutions for Global Eagle Entertainment.

“Content is relevant to passengers and a big differentiator for airlines.”

Global Eagle’s chief operating officer Dave Davis added that the partnership with Magzter “represents our continued success in seeking out and delivering relevant content solutions for our airline customers while answering the market’s growing need for innovative solutions that operate in both wireless and connected environments.”

“At Magzter, we are consistently dedicated to increasing publisher’s exposure to the global magazine consumer,” said Aaron Wall, Director of Strategic Alliances at Magzter.

“This partnership with Global Eagle Entertainment augurs well as a step forward in achieving that mission…the magazines on our platform cover a variety of categories including entertainment, sports, lifestyle, travel and news which are all very popular with leisure and business travellers.

Wall added that Magzter’s library will also allow airlines to offer popular local and regional magazines which can be made route-specific and complementary to specific regional audio and video inflight entertainment.
