A Tweet Revealing Agassi's Meth Use Sends Couric Back to Las Vegas

The NYTimes has an interesting story about how the news of tennis great Andre Agassi's admission of using crystal meth was revealed.

Agassi writes about using the drug in his autobiography, Open. Time Inc. bought the rights to run excerpts in Sports Illustrated and People.

But the crystal meth news was inadvertently revealed in a Tweet by a Sports Illustrated reporter a day before the magazines published. The tweet was removed about 25 minutes after it went live, but, not surprisingly, the news had already spread around the world.

Katie Couric had the exclusive TV interview with Agassi, which aired in two parts last night on "60 Minutes." The Times' Tim Arango writes, "Apparently, neither Ms. Couric nor her producers decided to ask Mr. Agassi directly about the crystal meth use, although he brought up drug use in general when discussing his depression. But once the news broke, and the media storm ensued, Ms. Couric went back to Las Vegas on Tuesday to ask Mr. Agassi about it and his take on the public's reaction."

'Week in Advertising' Turns 50

This week, AgencySpy's "Week in Advertising" series turned 50 weeks old. To celebrate, TVNewser helped out with this special anniversary episode that proves host Matt Van Hoven is actually sort of funny if you cut everything he says into tiny pieces and take it out of context.

Plus, if you enjoy the special "Mad Men Recap of Recaps," you can also find it by itself here.

You can watch "The Week in Advertising" on the the AgencySpy sidebar each Tuesday and see the archive of previous episodes here.

Obama Psych

Before speaking from the Rose Garden this afternoon on the passage of the House version of health care reform, Pres. Obama faked-out some members of the media, including CNN's Elaine Quijano:

CNN Investigates Murder on the Battlefield

Beginning Tuesday on CNN's AC360, investigative correspondent Abbie Boudreau begins a four-part series looking into case of U.S. soldiers convicted of murder on the battlefield -- three Army sergeants who used their service pistols to execute four Iraqi men in their custody who they believed were insurgents.

Boudreau obtained nearly 24 hours of interrogation footage that includes a confession from one of the soldiers and raises several questions: on the battlefield, is murder a crime? And is the Army's policy on detainees realistic for soldiers on the battlefield?

Killings At The Canal: The Army Tapes begins Tuesday night on AC360, with an hour-long special airing Saturday at 8pmET.

> Update, Monday a.m.: In light of last week's events at Ft. Hood, CNN is holding this series until a later date.

BBC World News America - The Germany Edition

German-born Matt Frei, who reported from Berlin on the day the Wall fell 20 years ago, returns to his native country to anchor BBC World News America from the historic Brandenburg Gate, tomorrow on BBC America at 7pmET.

Twenty minutes after health care reform passed in the House, the Fox News team, a parody of them anyway, got the coveted lead-off segment on Saturday Night Live:

The House passed its version of the health care reform bill, getting the 218 votes needed at 11:07pmET tonight. The final vote was 220 in favor, 215 against. One republican, Rep. Joseph Cao of Louisiana voted for it.

Geraldo Rivera was hosting live coverage on Fox news. On CNN, Don Lemon anchored and MSNBC's David Shuster was in to anchor their coverage.

Now it's the Senate's turn.

The Only Network to Provide Live Coverage of Speaker Pelosi? It's Not CNN or MSNBC

pelosi_11.7.jpgSo, we wonder if the White House still thinks Fox News is "not a news network." Tonight, Fox News was the only news channel [other than C-SPAN] to provide live coverage of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi making her way to the house chamber, then speaking to members ahead of tonight's vote on health care reform. CNN stayed with a taped replay of The Situation Room. MSNBC was airing a crime documentary, but mentioned that Pelosi was speaking during a scheduled live cut-in. FNC and MSNBC have teased they'll have coverage of the vote when it happens. CNN returns to live coverage at 7pmET.

'20/20' is #1, Best A18-34 Rating in 3 Years

2020_11.7.jpgABC was #1 last in the A18-49 demo thanks in part to the ABC News magazine "20/20."

Last night's show featured several reports on the Ft. Hood massacre as well as Diane Sawyer's interview with Rihanna, speaking for the first time about being attacked by her then-boyfriend, singer Chris Brown last February.

"20/20" won its time period in Total Viewers (8.2M) and A18-49 (2.7 rating/9 share). The Elizabeth Vargas-hosted show was also Friday's #1 TV show across each of the key demos: A18-34 (2.3/9), A18-49 (2.7/9) and A25-54 (3.1/9).

This was the show's biggest audience in more than 7 months and its best A18-34 rating in almost 3 years -- since Dec. 1, 2006.

CNN Special on Ft. Hood Shootings

Tonight at 8pmET, CNN premieres a Special Investigation into the Ft. Hood massacre. The one-hour live special is anchored by Don Lemon, with on-site reporting from Ft. Hood by CNN national correspondent David Mattingly and CNN investigative correspondent Drew Griffin.

Bill O'Reilly Explains Why Viewers Chose FOX for Ft. Hood Coverage: 'The Media Guard Has Changed'

Bill O'Reilly called out The New York Times, The Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, and CNN over some of their coverage of the Ft. Hood massacre -- which, in O'Reilly's view, blamed the wars instead of the killer, Nidal Malik Hasan, for the rampage. "The guy is either a Muslim terrorist or a crazy person. That's it. Those are the choices," said O'Reilly of Hasan.

"We did 5 million viewers at 8 O'Clock, wiped out CNN and MSNBC, wiped them off the face of the earth. The guard has changed in this country. The media guard has changed. And you know why people came in here, because they knew they were going to get an honest story. They weren't going to get spin that Hasan is some kind of post-traumatic syndrome victim. Some kind of victim of a terrible public policy gone awry. They're not going to get that..... I almost said a bad word. They're not going to get that garbage here."

O'Reilly's guest Bernie Goldberg also gave a new name to the mainstream media:
