Hollywood Recasts ESPN Radio Host Colin Cowherd… as a Black Guy
OK, this is not usually the way it works in Hollywood. In fact, to the general protestations of various nationalities, Tinseltown has tended to whitewash the racial origins of many a real-life character inspiration so that the role can be played by a Caucasian A-lister.
Not so in the case of ESPN Radio show host Colin Cowherd (pictured). According to a report this afternoon in The Hollywood Reporter, a new sitcom based on the weekday morning personality is gearing up at CBS, with Damon Wayans in the lead, namesake role:
The pilot is written by Bill Martin andMike Schiff (Grounded for Life) and is inspired by acerbic ESPN personality Cowherd. Wayans’ character is named Nick Herd… Cowherd will serve as a producer on the project.
We’re not saying this is in any way a bad thing. Let’s just hope Tinseltown doesn’t go too far in the other direction, because honestly, we’re not sure if we could stomach Pauly Shore as Barack Obama.
