A Look at Quartz, the New Business Site from The Atlantic

Quartz, the business site from Atlantic Media, went live just a bit ago. So what can you expect? Here’s a brief rundown of what we found, as we perused the site.

  • The Content. There are links, photos and longform pieces on Quartz. For example, while browsing we found a link to a Business Insider article, a huge picture of a Snickers for a piece about the most popular candy bar and a long piece on Facebook.
  • The Look. Quartz is laid out a bit oddly, and it takes a minute to gain your bearings. Along the top there are what the site is calling “Obsessions” listed. That’s basically just a fancy word for “topics,” but whatever, we get it; they want to be different. Along the left of the page is headlines, which can be arranged via more tabs on the far left. You can also just start scrolling through the stories. There’s almost too many options.
  • The Bottom Line. Quartz is certainly worth checking out, even if you’re not into business. The odd look will likely grow on you and there is just to much potential for the site to be good for you to ignore it. Now, let’s talk about Snickers being the most popular candy bar. How is it not the Take 5? Please discuss/argue until someone gets insulted in the comments.
