ABC News’ David Muir on Viability of Newsmagazines: “There’s Still an Appetite for Heavy Interviewing”

mmm_2-3.gifToday on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we’re joined by ABC News’ David Muir.

The World News Saturday anchor is moving to Friday this week, for a report on tonight’s 20/20 about the “Black Widow” murder case. The report took him back to his hometown of Syracuse, which is also where he got his start in the TV news business.

“You know that there’s still an appetite for heavy lifting, heavy interviewing,” he said of the interest in newsmagazines. “What 20/20 does is not only tries to do that, and offer up some of these murder hours, but also take them a step further…So it’s not just escapism on a Friday night, but it’s also revealing how detectives now are going about this. It’s like Dexter/CSI meets 20/20.”

Also discussed: What he thought of TMZ filming him last month (and dubbing him the “Brad Pitt of news anchors”), the American journalist on trial in North Korea and What We Learned This Week.
