Adventures in Revenue Generating: The Sports Illustrated Edition

si12.29.084.jpgJust like almost every other Time Inc. property, Sports Illustrated has been hit with layoffs that cut away some of its best writers and editors.

So what’s a magazine to do in hopes of raising revenue? Direct its subscribers to a Web site where they can purchase cover images. The picture to the left shows a recent issue of SI sent to our house alerting us to the fact that we can “buy SI covers at SICovers.Com.”

Prices range from $19.95 for a simple 11″x14″ cover image to $129.95 for two covers framed side-by-side. And yes, you can get the Swimsuit issue.

After the jump, a bigger image and a cute dog.
