Al-Jazeera English Facing Mass Staff Departures, Lawsuits

Is news network Al-Jazeera English imploding?

It sure looks like it. In the past 90 days:

  • Director of News and Programmes Steve Clark quit.

  • Senior Washington anchor (and ex-CBS presenter) David Marash quit.

  • Deputy Director of News Al Anstley quit.

15 lower level employees have left Al-Jazeera English as well. But why did Steve Clark, who held one of the highest positions at the network, decide to leave?

It might have something to do with the fact that his wife, Jo Burgin, is taking Al-Jazeera to court in London on claims of sex, race and religious discrimination. She was formerly Head of Planning for the network. A-J’s former financial controller, Clive Brady, is taking the network to court in the United States as well.

Judging from online message boards, Al-Jazeera English employees are miserable.
