Alan Feuer: “Amateurish yet principled”

Over Where.jpgWe were so taken with Tom Scocca’s sneak peek into Times reporter Alan Feuer’s fun new book on his stint in Iraq that we rushed to Amazon to buy it! Unfortunately, the book’s not available yet – but the product description is, inviting us to enjoy a “gin-soaked yet scrupulously honest” romp through Feueur’s warmtime experience (because “gin soaked” tends to beget “scrupulously honest”).

Apparently, our “amateurish yet principled” Feuer will also introduce us to members of the “international media swarm” plus “local opportunists and unscrupulous profiteers” (we’re assuming they’re not mutually exclusive of each other or their narrator), as well as “the Times bureau chiefs who decide what, and how much of it, is fit to print.” (“Alan, is this guy named Arubay really 50?” “What? Oh, yeah. Yeah.” “Okay, cool.”)

We’re just a little confused about the whole “scrupulously honest” thing – (unlesss taking liberties with reminiscences is the new scrupulously honest).
