Average Time Spent at Major News Sites Declined in February
Editor and Publisher has the latest Nielsen traffic data for February, and the time users spent on the major news Web sites has suffered a significant drop from a year ago.
Readers of all the top ten news sites (measured by number of unique users) spent less time at the sites. NYTimes.com, Google News and Fox News suffered the biggest percentage declines. NYTimes.com saw average user time drop 53% to 13:18. Google News’ user time dropped 47% to 8:52, and Fox’s dropped 46% to 19:32. Tribune Newspapers held on the best on a percentage basis, falling 18% to 10:32.
Time spent on major news sites also fell in January, according to Editor and Publisher.
