Bill Gallo, Legendary New York Daily News Cartoonist, Dies

Bill Gallo, a staple at The New York Daily News for 70 years, has died from complications due to pneumonia. He was 88 years old. According to The Daily News, Gallo had been fighting off several medical complications – including emphysema – while continuing to write columns and draw his famous cartoons from the hospital when necessary. His son, Greg, had the following to say:

My father is a lasting legend to New York, and to New York sports. He will be forever thought of as a great cartoonist for the Daily News, but he will also be remembered as the gentleman he was to all the people he came across, everybody in the streets of the city. People loved him because he was a special human being.
