Media Math 101: Provocative equals publicity. A two-page Boston magazine ad featuring nuns sketching a nude man for a fitness club is driving a lot of conversation in the blogosphere this afternoon. Catholic leaders in Boston are, to be sure, protesting the ad. From Foxnews:

”The ad, created by an unnamed Minnesota agency, features three nuns — one wearing a garter — painting the chiseled man while a fourth nun watches from behind a gate.

”The gym, Equinox Fitness, issued the following statement: ‘The ads capture the energy and artistry of the well-conditioned body in a thought-provoking fashion, blending fantasy and impact.”’

An impact worth tens of millions of dollars in free publicity, we cannot fail to note.
