Central Park Tennis Director Calls Fault On Times
You cannot be serious, Times!
We were too busy watching the Wimbledon in bed — nursing a Justine Henin-Hangover, if you will — to read this New York Times article on the pain-in-the-assdom of playing tennis in New York. But we weren’t too hungover to field this volley from Carla Hughes, director of the Central Park Tennis Center:

To: mediabistro.comHi, In response to Kathleen McElroy‘s article in the Sunday’s Times-Tennis: Not on the Lawn, but near it. The comments made about the Central Park Tennis Center were unfair and inaccurate. We operate in a fair, honest, courteous manner. Where did she get this information?
1. What is “game the system”? It sounds like we are allowing people to get preferential treatment with courts. This is definately not true.
2. 5 min’s of sweeping? We haven’t had this rule in 3 years.
3. Signing up at 6:00 a.m. for a court 3 hours later? We don’t open the doors till 6:30 a.m. and courts are generally available.
4. No netting between courts? I don’t know of any public outdoor facility with netting between the courts.
5. Scrutiny from the players?
6. At worse hostile? I take personal offense to these comments. If you ask the general tennis playing public, (1000 people daily come to the Center) you will hear how wonderful the club is ran and how much people enjoy playing here.
Carla Hughes — Tennis Director
