Sunday, Dec 11
Slow day at the newsstandsI don't always buy the Sunday Times since it's availble online and I'd rather spend the $3.50 on Diet Coke, but this weekend I made a mental note to pick it up for the NYT mag's annual "Year In Ideas" (which is much easier to read in print than online). Of course, I completely forgot to pick one up until late afternoon and fretted that my trusty bodega would have sold out already, as they typically do. Luckily, they had not - nor had they at 11:30pm when I dropped in for a DC refill (ichor of the Gods, people). In fact, there were more NYTs left over than I'd ever seen there at all. Curious, I asked about it - my guy said that, though they usually sell out by around 3, today had been slow for newspapers across the board. So - there you go: a bit of anecdotal, totally unscientific evidence to support my fearmongering headline. Anyone else notice extra piles the Sunday Times in the city? Or was everyone too busy hunkering down indoors? Actually, that's fairly likely; readers were probably hung over, too. It's holiday party season, after all. Egg nog, the bane of newsprint vendors everywhere. Well, if you have thoughts, send 'em on in; Fishbowl cares about what you think, kind of. Email This Post |
