EDWARD MENICHESCHI NAMED VICE PRESIDENT AND
PUBLISHER OF VANITY FAIR

Edward Menicheschi has been named Vice President & Publisher of Vanity Fair, it was announced today by Charles H. Townsend, President and C.E.O. of Condé Nast Publications. Mr. Menicheschi is currently President of WWD Media Worldwide. He succeeds Alan Katz at Vanity Fair, who is leaving the company. Mr. Menicheschi’s appointment is effective immediately and a successor for WWD Media Worldwide will be named soon.

Katz had been with Vanity Fair for about a year, during which time the magazine, like many, has struggled with maintaining advertising pages. Through July, Vanity Fair was down over 14 percent in ad pages and 11 percent in revenue compared to the same period last year — a difference of over $13 million, according to the Publishers Information Bureau.

As Gawker notes, the move comes less than a month after editor Graydon Carter told the New York Post that Katz was safe:

“I have complete confidence in Alan. We had one argument in nine months, and it wasn’t even an argument; it was a disagreement … This is one big complicated magazine to run on the business side. There is a learning curve and I think Alan has gone through that and he will be a very successful Condé Nast publisher.”
