Confirmed: Murray Weiss Departing New York Post
The New York Observer reported earlier today that Murray Weiss, investigative reporter at the New York Post, is leaving the paper. FishbowlNY has confirmed with a Post spokesperson that Weiss is leaving. His last day will be June 18.
“It has been a privilege working for The Post and I am proud to have contributed to the great news tradition of The Post,” Weiss wrote in a resignation note to Post editor Col Allan. Weiss also said in the note that he is leaving the Post for personal reasons.
Weiss’ departure follows that of several Post reporters last week. Page Six reporter Neel Shah and two metro reporters, Lukas Alpert and James Fanelli, left. Reporter Maggie Haberman and several people from the Post business desk have also lately left.
Although some fuss has been made about the “exile” of talent from the paper stemming from a dysfunctional newsroom, it looks in Weiss’ case as though other factors are at play. “I want to thank you for the courtesy you have extended over the many years we have worked together at a newspaper I have called my second home for 24 years,” Weiss wrote.
