Consumerist for Sale, Valleywag Now Part of Gawker

nick11.13.08.jpgDoomsayer Nick Denton didn’t wait long to consolidate Gawker Media‘s blog network. Word trickled out that Consumerist was for sale and Valleywag would be shut down, becoming part of Gawker.

The Consumerist news wasn’t a surprise as the GM head honcho has been talking about the inability to sell ads against it for months — although honestly, who’s going to buy it now? — but Valleywag’s shuttering came as a disappointment to its loyal readers. Site editor Owen Thomas did predict his own demise — albeit in jest — two days before the news came down. He’ll continue to pen 6-12 posts a day, which will be published on Gawker. (Valleywag.com will continue to exist as well.) Paul Boutin, the site’s senior writer, will be let go.
