David Hirshey Continues Second Career…at ESPN

CIMG4722.jpgFor the past two years, we’ve enjoyed reading the weekly Deadspin column of David Hirshey, HarperCollins senior vice president, executive editor and frequent bold-face name at Michael’s. We were sad to learn via today’s column that the mustachioed editor, who covered the New York Cosmos (that’s Pelé’s old team) and writes about the beautiful game with a passion and acumen we fail to bring to write-ups of even the best media parties, is moving on from Will Leitch‘s empire. Starting Friday, he’ll will pen columns for ESPN.com — an interesting choice given that mentions of Deadspin are banned by the network’s execs.

Hirshey’s take: “So before you start sending me hateful emails and treating me like I’m Emily Gould with a thicker mustache, let me just say that I don’t feel at all bad about selling out.”

As another one of our favorite sports-related personalities once shouted, “Show me the money.”
